Back to Objectivism Criticism: in Response to "Kant at the Masked Ball" Paper by Stephen R. C. Hicks

This blog post is in response to the text at https://reasonpapers.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/04/rp_431_2.pdf. I am resposting this response from my Twitter account. Thomas William Dowling @thomaswdowling tweeted: "Stephen Hicks thinks that the founder of the counter-Enlightenment was... Immanuel Kant. Don't waste your time or money." In response to which I tweeted the following: @thomaswdowling is correct in his criticism. However, that doesn't mean you'd be wasting your money. It's necessary to learn from the errors of others in order to avoid making their mistakes. According to Hicks, 'Moses Mendelssohn, Kant’s contemporary, identifies him as “the all-destroyer,” fearful that Kantian philosophy cuts off all access to true reality.' I tweeted that Kant successfully argued that mankind never had access to "true reality" (noumena) to begin with. Moses Mendelssohn, on the other hand, needed to prove that such access ...

I Just Changed the Title of my First Novel

I was talking to White Buffalo online last night, and he gave me an idea. He told me that his life is "epic." So this morning I decided to change the title of the book to " White Buffalo - The Epic Tale of a Warrior-Prophet "! To make this entry a bit longer, I'll go into some of my plans for plotting " Elijah: Black Crow ." First: I found a bad error in chapter one of that book. Admittedly, I got one of the names wrong. White Buffalo corrected me on it and I'm still in the process of changing it. There are at least a dozen errors to fix in the manuscript. Second: PLOT! I'm a panster, not a plotter. That means I write as I go, and prepare little in advance. I don't create a plot outline on paper. But that doesn't mean I'm not a plotter. I have plans for future chapters. Third: One of my primary questions about the new book is whether White Buffalo is alive or dead. There are various ways to play this out. If White Buffalo ...

Elijah: Black Crow is still in Progress!

For those of you waiting patiently for the sequel to White Buffalo to come out: I have published one episode on Amazon Vella as a teaser. It's really good! Please read it when you have the time (hint: now! LOL!). https://www.amazon.com/kindle-vella/story/B09Z2ZSNS4 The story continues months after White Buffalo: Tales of a Warrior-Prophet ended. Elijah finds that leading a normal life to be dull, empty and boring. So he goes in search of White Buffalo, only to find himself face-to-face with an arch-demon in Tartarus. Elijah tells him he wants to borrow his eyes to help him find White Buffalo. The arch-demon is obviously unhappy with this request, and a battle ensues. White Buffalo appears during the battle, only to disappear again. Elijah returns to Earth with a little ray of hope. But what Elijah doesn't know is that, the harder he tries to carry on White Buffalo's legacy, the harder it'll become to make progress against evil!

No one will EVER read this

The novel-writing has been progressing slowly. Maybe it's due to living with all these disorders - internal and external problems plague me constantly. If the only thing Covenant had to worry about in reality was leprosy - no, he had social problems, too. Supposedly, there was still a social stigma in the US in 1977 regarding those with leprosy. I don't know if that's how it really was then. I suppose it's plausible that somebody with leprosy in 1977 US would be ostracized. So, I have these two novels in the works. Editing is uncomfortable and slow. I want to improve the rough drafts, but it's difficult and I don't have $1200+ to spend on an editor at Fiverr. Cheaper editors don't do very much and often renege on their promises. They say they'll do this and that, but then they only do "this" and not "that." The rough draft of chapter 1 (my first novel) was crap, but hopefully I improved it. I had an author read it, and all she had t...
